Men's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight, Defeating Kean, 87-78

GLASSBORO, NJ – Austin Kearney had a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Rowan to an 87-78 win over Kean in the NJAC regular-season finale at Esby Gym. The win is Rowan's fifth straight, and sixth in the last seven games, leading into the conference tournament.

Rowan, at 10-8 in the league and 14-11 overall, has earned the sixth seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament and will travel to third-seeded Ramapo (15-10; 12-6) for a first-round game on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to meet second-seeded Stockton in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Jerry Price had 13 points and five assists while Diante Bah netted 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Maliq Sanders scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Rowan. For Kearney, it was his fifth double-double of the season.
 
Rowan led from the opening tip but didn't begin to pull away until late in the first half. Leading 28-21, the Profs went on a 10-2 run to go up by 38-23 with 3:41 to go. Rowan added three-pointers from Ryan O'Leary, Travis Holland and a basket by Sanders to take a 46-28 lead into halftime.
 
The Profs made seven three-pointers in the first half, while connecting on 50 percent from the field.
 
Rowan kept it going at the start of the second half, scoring 10 of the first 14 points to take their biggest margin of the game, 56-32, with 16:27 left.
 
Jailen Jamison of Kean (3-15; 6-19) scored 18 of his game-high 32 points in the second half to help the Cougars cut their deficit to 14 points, 69-55, with 8:36 to play. A layup by Green, a three-pointer from Brian Thatcher and a layup from Kearney pushed Rowan's lead back up to 76-57.
 
The Profs remained in control the rest of the way, but Kean connected on three three-pointers in the final 54 seconds to provide the final margin.
 
The Profs honored their six seniors - Diante Bah, Jonathan Hevalow, Austin Kearney, Jerry Price, Maliq Sanders and Brian Thatcher, along with senior manager Tyler Dvorak - prior to their final regular-season home game at Esby Gym.
