GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team had a 70-59 loss to visiting The College of New Jersey.
The Profs (16-3) and Lions (13-6) are tied for first place (10-2) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. In the first meeting this season, Rowan won in Ewing, 68-57 (Dec. 4).
Guard Rachel Gazzola led TCNJ with a game-high 21 points. Guard Elle Cimilluca followed with 19 points and she dished six assists. Forward Shannon Devitt contributed with nine points and 10 rebounds. Forward Jen Byrne chipped in with nine points.
For the Profs, forward
Eliana Santana contributed with 16 points and six boards. Guards
Grace Marshall and
Nicole Mallard scored 12 and 11 points respectively. They each grabbed five rebounds. Center
Ayanna Johnson collected eight boards.
The Lions outscored the Profs, 21-13 in the third to lead 56-43 going into the final quarter. Marshall nailed a three in the fourth at 7:25, which made the score 61-48. Gazzola's layup put TCNJ up by 15 (65-50) with 5:55 left. Santana had a basket (3:59) and guard
Alexis Kriley followed with two foul shots (2:30) to cut the deficit to 11 (65-54).
Cimilluca sank two free throws (1:28) for a 13 point advantage (67-54). Marshall scored with a layup (1:21), guard
Savanna Holt made a foul shot (1:11) and Santana had a basket (0:25) to trail by eight (67-59). Devitt sealed the victory with a layup and free throw (0:12). Gazzola led the Lions with 14 points in the second half while Marshall produced 10 for the Profs.
