JERSEY CITY, NJ – Three players scored in double figures for the Rowan University women's basketball team in an 83-55 win at New Jersey City University.
Guard
Nicole Mallard led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Grace Marshall contributed with 14 points. Forward
Eliana Santana recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Center
Ayanna Johnson totaled nine boards, six blocks and five points.
The Profs are in first place in the conference with a 10-1 record and they are 16-2 overall. The Gothic Knights are 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Guard Hannah Johnson led NJCU with 15 points and guard Aaliyah McCrae scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Forward Sarah Edmond produced a game-high 11 boards.
Rowan was ahead 21-11 going into the second quarter. The Profs had a 10 point lead (24-14) at 8:57. NJCU had a 13-4 run to pull within one point (28-27) with 4:28 left. Johnson made two three-pointers while guard Dionna Lenardo and forward Ayanna Lewis chipped in with five and two points respectively. Rowan answered with an 11-2 surge for a 10 point advantage (39-29) at the half. Guard
Kennedy Brown scored five points while Santana and Mallard had three apiece.
Forward
Jazlyn Duverglas drilled a three (3:31) in the third and the Profs were ahead by 26 (58-32). The Gothic Knights trailed by 19 (58-39) with 2:03 remaining. McCrae hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds on the clock. Duverglas had a jumper as time expired to lead 66-47. Rowan outscored NJCU, 17-8 in the final quarter.
