Women's Basketball Holds Off Rutgers-Camden, 65-61

CAMDEN, NJ – Guards Nicole Mallard and Alexis Kriley each sank two fouls shots at the end of the game in the Rowan University's women's basketball team's 65-61 win at Rutgers-Camden.
 
With 20 seconds left, Mallard had two points at the line, which made the score 63-60.  Forward Breanna Ettrick cut the deficit to two with the second of two free throws at the 12 second mark.  The Scarlet Raptors attempted a three-pointer and Kriley was fouled on the rebound.  Kriley made two foul shots with eight seconds left for the final score.
 
Mallard ended the game with 19 points and six rebounds.  Kriley contributed with eight points and five boards.  Guards Paige Caldwell and Savanna Holt chipped in with eight points apiece.  Forward Jazlyn Duverglass grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
 
The Profs are 15-2 overall and 9-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Scarlet Raptors have a 9-8 record with a 2-8 conference mark.
 
For Rutgers-Camden, guard Fatimah Williams scored a game-high 25 points.  Forward Tamara Johnson contributed with 14 points and eight boards.  Guard Jalissa Pitts totaled nine points and eight rebounds.
 
Rowan was ahead 51-48 going into the final quarter.  The Profs led by seven points four times and the last was at 4:07, 61-54 after Kriley's layup.  Rutgers-Camden followed with six straight points to pull within one (61-60) at 1:02 before Mallard's two free throws.  Williams made three straight baskets.
 
The Profs had a one-point advantage, 39-38 at the half.  Pitts was good for two fouls shots at 6:04 and the Scarlet Raptors took the lead 43-42.  Kriley (5:12) and Duverglas (3:40) each answered with a basket to take back the lead 46-43.  Ettrick hit a jumper to trail by one (46-45) with 2:27 remaining. 
 
Guard Kennedy Brown drilled a three and Rowan led 49-45 with 2:10 on the clock.  Ettrick had one point at the line (1:11) while Duverglas made two (0:14).  The Profs were up 51-46.  Rutgers-Camden guard Shane Holmes scored with a layup (0:03) to end the third quarter. 
 
Next, Rowan travels to New Jersey City University on Saturday, Jan. 25.  The game time has been moved up to noon.
