GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team had five players in double figures in an 89-50 win over Rutgers-Newark.
Guards
Eliana Santana and
Alexis Kriley each scored 15 points and guard
Savanna Holt followed with 14. Santana also grabbed six rebounds. Guard Kenney Brown totaled 12 points and six boards.
Forward
Jazlyn Duverglas contributed with 10 points and she tied her career high with seven rebounds. Center
Ayanna Johnson pulled down 15 boards and blocked five shots. She also chipped in with nine points. The sophomore is third in the nation in rebounds and blocks. Guard
Nicole Mallard totaled nine points, seven steals, five assists and four rebounds.
The Profs are 14-2 on the season and in first place of the New Jersey Athletic Conference with an 8-1 mark. The Scarlet Raiders are 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
For Rutgers-Newark, center Comfort Akinbo scored 10 points. Forward Ebony Odom Barnes collected eight points and nine rebounds. Guard Hannah Ashby added eight points and six boards. Guard Elisah India dished five assists.
Santana's layup with 18 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Profs a 26 point lead (41-15) at the break. She scored eight points in the first half while Brown was the leader with nine. Johnson and Kriley had seven points apiece.
In the third quarter, Kriley had a layup (7:44) and made the score 48-19. Mallard sank two foul shots with six seconds remaining to lead by 30 (66-36) going into the final quarter. Rowan was ahead by 36 points (79-43) after guard
Carleigh Burns nailed a three at 4:50. Duverglas' three with 1:02 on the clock gave the Profs their biggest lead of the game, 41 points (89-48). She was the team's scoring leader with all 10 of her points in the second half.
