Volleyball Battles to 3-2 Win over Ramapo

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University volleyball team scored the first eight points in the fifth set en route to a 3-2 victory over Ramapo College in NJAC action at Esby Gym. The Profs improve to 8-7 (1-1 NJAC) while handing Ramapo (4-1; 1-1) its first loss of the season.

Simone Sparano paced the win in the final set, serving the first eight points as the Profs jumped out to an 8-0 lead and then increased it to 11-1. Ramapo fought back to close within 13-8, but Rowan sealed the win on a Ramapo attack error and a kill by Kailey Gallagher.

Ramapo won the first set, 28-26, but Rowan took the second and third, by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. The Roadrunners then came back to capture the fourth, 25-17, to send the match into the fifth set.

Gallagher led the Profs with 20 kills on the evening while Megan Jacobi posted 15. Tori Mock dished out 41 assists and Alaina Santacroce had 22, while Sparano registered 33 digs for Rowan.

"I was proud of the team because we've been working on how to finish a game. It was nice to see us be resilient when Ramapo played so well. It was definitely a positive to go out in the fifth set and learn how to finish it, even though Ramapo never gave up. It was nice to see we could come out on the other side because we've been struggling to push even when we are ahead in a set," said head coach Deana Jesperson.

The Profs will play three more matches this week, traveling to William Paterson on Thursday and then participating in the Neumann University Tri-Match on Saturday.
