GLASSBORO, NJ – The 10
thranked Catholic University women's lacrosse team won 18-9 at Rowan University on Thursday night.
The Cardinals are 12-4 overall while the Profs have a 10-6 record. Prior to the game, the team honored its eight seniors – attacks
Mikala Gillespie (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City),
Reese Parr (sr. Freehold, NJ/Howell) and
Maddie Bray (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee); midfielders
Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and
Taylor Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.); defenders
Kaitlyn Schneider (sr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County Reg.) and
Haley Symons (sr. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) and goalie
Emma Frost (sr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Reg.).
Midfielder Ally Criscuolo (jr. Southampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) led Catholic with four goals while midfielder Julia Clementi (jr. Harborfields, NY/Harborfields) contributed with three goals and two assists. Midfielder Jess Lyons (sr. Havertown, PA/Havertown) scored three times and had one assist. Midfielder Anna Maupin (so. Stafford, VA/Colonia Forge) collected two goals and two assists.
Attack Megan Ellis (sr. Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and midfielder Katie Sherry (sr. Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) each chipped in with two goals. Midfielders Molly Monaghan (fr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Bishop Eustace) and Wendy El (jr. Woodbridge, VA/St. John Paul) added one goal apiece. Attack Bridget Beck (so. Collegeville, PA/Gwynedd Mercy) assisted on two goals while midfielder Caitlyn Bowles (fr. Cranston, RI/Bay View) had one assist. Goalie Nanci Hernandez (jr. San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) stopped 14 shots. Lyons totaled seven draw controls.
For Rowan, attack
Maddie Bray (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) scored three goals. Attack
Mikala Gillespie (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) followed with two goals and one assist. Midfielder
Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) produced two goals. She compiled four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Attack
Jess Havers (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added one goal and one assist. Attack
Elise Cohan (fr. Far Hills, NJ/Bernards) had one goal. Midfielder
Taylor Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) totaled 10 draw controls. Goalie
Reilly Shaup (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made five saves.
In the first half, Catholic scored two goals and Rowan followed with two to tie the score. The Cardinals pulled away with eight straight to lead 10-2 with 2:23 remaining. Lyons hit the net three times while Criscuolo and Ellis each had two goals while Ely had one. Cohan ended the streak with nine seconds left to trail 10-3 at the break.
Kramer started the second period with a free position goal (23:18). Sherry and Clementi each scored for Catholic and made the score 12-4. The Profs then had goals by Bray (20:59) and Havers (20:12). The teams each had one goal then the Cardinals produced five unanswered scores to lead 18-7 with 5:42 left. Clementi totaled two goals while Maupin, Criscuolo and Sherry had one tally apiece. Bray and Gillespie registered Rowan's final goals at 2:22 and 0:01 respectively.
Rowan is the second seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. The opponent will be determined at the conclusion of the conference games this weekend.
