Women's Lacrosse Wins 9-8 In Overtime At Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Midfielder Taylor Gretz scored the winning goal in overtime for the Rowan University women's lacrosse team for a 9-8 victory at Montclair State University on Saturday.
 
Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) won the draw control to start the extra period and recorded the game-winner at 4:55.  She finished the game with four points, three goals and one assist.  She totaled eight draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Attack Mikala Gillespie (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) contributed with three goals and one assist.  Attacks Jess Havers (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Elise Cohan (fr. Far Hills, NJ/Bernards) and midfielder Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) all chipped in with a goal.  Goalie Reilly Shaup (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) made eight saves.
 
The Profs are 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Red Hawks have an 8-7 record with a 3-2 conference mark.
 
For Montclair State, midfielders Brittany Costigan (so. Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) and Sydnee Sapp (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and attack Chelsea Orban (sr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) all had two goals apiece.  Attack Megan Mahlstadt (jr. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) compiled five assists.  Attack Kyle Graver (jr. Boyertown, NJ/Boyertown) and midfielder Erin Campbell (sr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) each scored one time.  Goalies Amanda Maguire (jr. Verona, NJ/Verona) and Allyn Lillien (so. Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood) stopped eight and five shots respectively.
 
The Red Hawks were ahead 7-5 after the first half.  Orban started the second stanza with an unassisted goal at 29:23, which made the score 8-5.  Rowan's defense held Montclair State scoreless for the remainder of the game. Gillespie and Havers produced free position goals at 26:53 and 11:20 respectively to trail 8-7.  Gretz scored the tying goal with 8:54 left in regulation.
 
In the opening period, Gillespie and Gretz gave Rowan a 2-0 advantage at 29:15.  The teams exchanged goals before the Red Hawks had three straight to lead 4-3.  Sapp (17:41), Costigan (16:07) and Campbell (13:54) each hit the net.  Cohan knotted the score at four with 13:19 remaining.  Montclair State had three unanswered goals to lead 7-4 at 7:07. Kramer ended the half with an unassisted score (4:41) to trail by two at the break.
 
Next week, Rowan is on the road again at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, April 23 at 4 p.m.
