GLASSBORO, NJ – The fifth ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team won 14-10 at Rowan University on Thursday.
Attacks Emma Skoglund (so. Easton, MD/Easton) and Gianna Demato (jr. Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) each scored three goals. Attack Alexis Strobel (so. Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) contributed with one goal and four assists. Attack Lindsey Wagner (sr. Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) assisted on three scores and had two of her own.
Attacks Lydia McNulty (so. Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), Angelica Jensen (jr. Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and Gabby Mongno (sr. Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) and midfielders Taylor Poore (jr. Port Deposit, MD/Perryville) and Elaine Draper (sr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) all produced one goal. Attack Julie Talbert (so. Eden, MD/Worcester Prep) had an assist.
Goalie Skye Graham (jr. Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) stopped nine shots. Defender Martha Hutzell (sr. Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) totaled four draw controls and three ground balls. Defender Anna Wehland (jr. Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
The Sea Gulls are 3-1 on the season. The Profs have a 1-1 record and they are ranked 23
rdin this week's poll.
Rowan attack
Maddie Bray (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) had four points with three goals and one assist. Attack
Ashley Lechliter (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored three times and midfielder
Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) followed with two goals. Attack
Mikala Gillespie (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) assisted on two goals. Midfielder
Taylor Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and attack
Reese Parr (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold) registered one goal and one assist apiece.
Goalie
Emma Frost (sr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Reg.) made nine saves. Gretz recorded 12 draw controls. She also collected six ground balls. The Profs compiled 16 draw controls while the Sea Gulls had nine.
Salisbury started the game with four straight goals. Poore, Wagner, Skoglund and Demato each scored one time. Bray put the Profs on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 18:07. The Sea Gulls added three more for a 7-1 advantage with 10:11 remaining. Parr followed with a goal (9:03) for Rowan. Salisbury answered with three more scores to lead 10-2 at the half. Jensen, McNulty and Strobel had one goal apiece.
The teams exchanged goals at the beginning of the second stanza. Skoglund hit the cage at 29:07 with an assist from Strobel. Gretz scored the Profs' goal (27:44). Mongno scored on a free position shot (26:16) and Demato had a goal (23:57) with a pass from Strobel, which made the score 13-3. Bray hit the net for the second time (21:46) and Gillespie had the assist. Gillespie connected with Kramer who had Rowan's next goal (20:16). Lechliter hit the cage twice and the Profs trailed 13-7 with 17:44 left. The Profs' rally continued with a free position goal (12:50) by Kramer. For the next 12 minutes, both teams held their opponent scoreless. Wagner found the net one more time (0:54) and Rowan ended the contest with two straight goals. Lechliter scored (0:19) with an assist from Gretz. With one second on the clock, Bray had the final goal on a pass from Parr.
Next, Rowan hosts Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
