ENGLEWOOD, FL – The Denison University women's lacrosse team won 16-15 in overtime against Rowan University on Friday during Spring Break.
With 56 seconds left in overtime, attack Liz Farnham (so. Barrington, RI/Moses Brown) recorded the winning goal unassisted. Attack
Jess Havers (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a free position shot with one second remaining in regulation and she tied the score at 15 for the Profs.
Denison improves to 4-3 on the season while Rowan has a 3-3 record. Attack Kiely Noonan (jr. Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) led the Big Red with six points, four goals and two assists. Attack Hope Adams (so. Denver, CO/Cherry Creek) scored three goals Midfielder Molly Fischer (so. Barrington, RI/Moses Brown) contributed with two goals and three assists.
Midfielder Casey McTague (fr. Arlington, VA/Stone Ridge) and Farnham each had two goals and one assists. Midfielder Lindsey Karsh (so. Glenview, IL/Glenbrook S.) added one goal and one assist. Attacks Maddy Heher (sr. Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and Leander Perun (jr. Durham, NC/Durham Academy) registered one goal apiece. Attack Graham McIntosh (jr. Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) and midfielder Colleen Muldoon (sr. Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) each chipped in with an assist. Goalie Hannah Magarian (sr. Minneapolis, MN/Blake) stopped 15 shots.
Havers ended the game with five goals. Attack
Mikala Gillespie (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) hit the net four times. Midfielder
Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) totaled three goals and one assist. Attacks
Maddie Bray (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and
Reese Parr (sr. Freehold, NJ/Howell) and midfielder
Taylor Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) all had one goal.
Rowan started the second half with a one goal lead (7-6). Havers (29:02) and Gillespie (28:26) each scored on free positions, which made the score 9-6. The two teams exchanged goals twice then Denison had four straight to go ahead 12-11. McTague tallied two goals while Karsh and Perun each had one.
The Profs answered with a score by Gretz (11:20) and Kramer (10:06) for a 13-12 advantage. The Big Red followed with three for a two goal lead (15-13) with 6:42 remaining. Kramer pulled Rowan within one at 4:08 before Havers' tying goal as time expired.
Next week, Rowan plays at Neumann University on Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
