ENGLEWOOD, FL – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team came back in the second half for a 17-14 win over Clarkson University on Wednesday during Spring Break.
Attack
Maddie Bray (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) led the Profs (3-2) with eight points, six goals and two assists. Midfielder
Taylor Gretz (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) contributed with three goals and two assists for five points and attack
Jess Havers (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) followed with four points (3-1).
Midfielders
Liz Kramer (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and
Shannen Sterner (fr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) each scored two times. Attack
Reese Parr (sr. Freehold, NJ/Howell) produced one goal and two assists. Attacks
Ashley Lechliter (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and
Julia Stumpf (jr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Kramer all had one assist.
Goalie
Emma Frost (sr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Reg.) made four saves in 46:48 while goalie
Reilly Shaup (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had three saves in 13:12. Bray totaled six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Kramer registered five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Gretz and Sterner gathered six and four ground balls respectively.
For the Golden Knights (2-4), attack/midfielder Jayd Baytos (sr. Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Central) scored five goals and had two assists. Midfielder Katie Sergeant (jr. Ontario, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) totaled four points with three goals and one assist. Midfielder Mia Petrone (fr. Penfield, NY/Penfield) hit the net two times and midfielder Lexi Smith (jr. Deferiet, NY/Carthage) added one goal and two assists. Attacks Sydney Roderick (fr. Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) and Aubrey Borgesi (jr. Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and midfielder Abby Collins (jr. Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) all scored one goal. Attack Marisa Clark (sr. Adams, NY/South Jefferson) had an assist.
In 39:21, Clarkson goalie Samantha Gladd (sr. Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) stopped five shots. Carolynn Pechmann (so. Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) finished the game in net and had three saves. Baytos compiled eight draw controls while Gladd picked up five ground balls.
Rowan trailed 8-6 to start the second half. The Profs went ahead with a 5-1 run to lead 11-9 with 20:39 remaining. Sterner and Bray each scored two goals while Gretz had one. Baytos had the score for the Golden Knights. Clarkson answered with three straight to go ahead 12-11 at 16:40. Roderick, Smith and Borgesi had one goal apiece.
The Profs had five goals to take back the lead 16-12 with 10:02 left. Baytos (4:48) and Collins (1:29) cut the deficit to two (16-14). Havers scored the final goal with an assist from Lechliter (0:35).
Rowan's Florida trip continues on Friday, March 22 against Denison University at 1 p.m.
