MAHWAH, NJ –The Rowan University women's basketball team scored 29 points in the second quarter to win 78-51 at Ramapo College.
The Profs have won five straight games and they are 8-1 on the season and 5-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Center
Ayanna Johnson led the way with a career-high 25 rebounds and a school record nine blocks. The previous mark was eight blocks by Samantha Eskuchen, twice in 2005. Johnson also scored 17 points. Guard
Alexis Kriley contributed with 16 points and guard
Grace Marshall followed with 15. Both players registered five rebounds.
The Roadrunners are 8-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Forward Jenna Harsh totaled 13 points and five boards. Guard Sarah Minchin and center Jessica Repasy each had nine points. Center Alie Wickersheim collected eight rebounds and guard Abbegail Whildin added seven points.
Ramapo was ahead 17-12 going into the second quarter. Rowan scored 13 straight points starting at 8:42 (19-15) to lead 28-19 with 5:07 on the clock. Marshall produced eight of the 13 points. Johnson's foul shot at 4:39 in the third gave Rowan a 20 point advantage (49-29). The Profs were up 57-39 after the third stanza. In the final quarter, Whildin hit a three at 3:32 and the score was 68-48. Rowan followed with a 10-3 surge for the final score. Forward
Jazlyn Duverglas and Kriley each contributed with four points and Johnson had two. The Profs' biggest lead of the game was 30 points (78-48) after Duverglas nailed a three-pointer with 1:45 remaining.
