MAHWAH, NJ – Ramapo scored four points in the final 20 seconds to earn a 77-76 win over Rowan in NJAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon as Matt Latka hit a jumper with :01 left for the gamewinner.
Austin Kearney led the Profs with 21 points while
Matt Green and
Jerry Price had 14 points apiece.
Ryan O'Leary added 13 points for Rowan (3-4; 1-3 NJAC).
The Profs took a 65-64 lead on a three-pointer by Kearney at 5:24 and the teams traded leads. Latka hit a three-pointer with 2:18 left to give Ramapo a 71-70 lead, but Green answered back with a three of his own to allow Rowan to retake the lead, 73-71.
Damian Smith then added a free throw to put Rowan up 74-70 .
A basket by Latka cut the Profs' edge to 74-73 but
Jerry Price hit a layup at :39 for Rowan to go back up, 76-74, before Rampao scored the final four points to earn the win.
The teams played a tight first half although Ramapo (4-6; 1-4) broke a 21-21 tie with a 9-0 run to go up 30-21, with 4:51 to play.
Matt Green broke the scoreless streak with a dunk off a feed from Kearney. A three-point play from Price and a three-pointer by Kearney got the Profs within, 32-29. Ramapo then took 42-38 lead into halftime.
Latka had 21 points for Ramapo with Jordan Zagadou chipping in 14 points.
Rowan connected on 8-of-16 from three-point range in the second half, and was 14-of-34 (41.2%) in the game.
The Profs are back in action on December 20 when they travel to Salisbury.
