GLASSBORO, NJ – Five players scored in double figures for the Rowan University women's basketball team in an 82-60 win against Rutgers-Camden. It was the conference opener for both teams.
Guards
Nicole Mallard and
Grace Marshall each scored 13 points. Mallard also grabbed seven rebounds and dished seven assists. Guard
Alexis Kriley followed with 12 points while forward
Eliana Santana chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Forward
Jazlyn Duverglas added 10 points off the bench. Center
Ayanna Johnson recorded a game-high 17 rebounds and blocked four shots.
Both teams are 4-1 on the season. For the Scarlet Raptors, guard Taylor Martin had a game-high 20 points. Guard Fatimah Williams contributed with 16 points and six rebounds. Center Kayla Newton collected seven points and 10 boards. Guard Shane Holmes registered five assists.
The Profs led 18-6 after the first quarter. Williams made two foul shots (5:30) and Rutgers-Camden trailed 8-6. Rowan ended the period with 10 straight points. Kriley scored eight points in the run. In the second, the Profs were ahead 23-12 at 7:54 and they built a 23 point advantage (35-12) with 12 unanswered points. Four different players scored in the surge. Rowan was up 41-21 at the intermission.
Guard
Savanna Holt put the Profs ahead by 30 (61-31) after a layup and free throw with 56 seconds left in the third quarter. It was their biggest lead in the game. Duverglas scored all 10 points in the second half and Mallard had eight.
