Women's Basketball Defeats TCNJ, 68-57, On the Road

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team won 68-57 at The College of New Jersey in a conference game.
 
The Profs are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Lions have a 4-3 record with a 1-1 conference mark.
 
Guard Grace Marshall led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Guards Kennedy Brown and Nicole Mallard each contributed with 10 points.  Brown collected six rebounds and four steals. Forward Eliana Santana and guard Savanna Holt chipped in with eight and seven points respectively.  Center Ayanna Johnson recorded a game-high 18 rebounds.
 
For TCNJ, guard Rachel Gazzola scored a game-high 21 points.  Forward Shannon Devitt had a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards.
 
The Lions were ahead 16-12 after the first quarter. Devitt made two free throws at 6:26 in the second for a 22-16 advantage.  The Profs followed with a 13-2 run to lead 29-24 at the break.  Six different players had points in the surge.  Marshall ended the half with 10 points.
 
Rowan led by 12 (36-24) at 7:44 in the third period. TCNJ came back and tied the score at 43 with 1:23 on the clock.  Mallard made a layup (1:04) and Marshall hit a three (0:14) to lead 48-43 going into the final quarter.  Gazzola sank a three-pointer and the Lions trailed 51-50 at 6:05.  Brown's jumper put the Profs up by five (58-53) with 3:41 remaining.  
 
Gazzola had two fouls shots (2:14) to cut the deficit to three (58-55).  Rowan answered with 10 straight points to lead by 13 at the 19 second mark.  Guard Alex Kriley and Mallard each had two baskets while Holt added one.  The Lions had two free throws to end the game.
