Volleyball Wins Two in Straight Sets at Rowan Tri-Match

GLASSBORO, NJ - The Rowan volleyball swept both of its non-conference opponents in straight sets at the Rowan Tri-Match today in Esby Gym. The Profs defeated Wheaton (MA), 3-0, and followed that later in the day with a 3-0 win over King's College (PA).

Rowan (16-14; 6-1 NJAC), which has won three in a row and five of its last six, used a rally in the third set to close out the match against Wheaton (17-11). Rowan won the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-20, but trailed, 20-15, in the third. The Profs then rattled off five straight points to tie the score at 20 and squeaked out a 25-23 win to close out the match.

Lauren Horbacewicz had a team-high 11 kills in the win, with Megan Jacobi adding 10. Setter Tori Mock dished out 35 assists, Simone Sparano came up with 13 digs and Jackie Camponelli had 11 digs.

The Profs won the first two sets against King's (20-6), 25-12 and 25-18, and again needed a rally in the third set. King's took an 8-1 lead early in the third but the Profs scored four straight points helped by a pair of service aces from Sparano. The Monarchs held the advantage until Rowan fought back and tied it, 14-14. The teams traded leads until Jacobi gave the Profs a 21-20 lead that they held onto to close out the match.

Jacobi had 10 kills, with just one error, while Lia Torrillo posted eight kills for Rowan. Mock again led with 29 assists and 12 digs with Sparano adding 13 digs.

Rowan has won six straight NJAC matches and closes out the conference regular-season on Tuesday, October 29 when it hosts Rutgers-Newark.
