GLASSBORO, NJ – The #16/17 Rowan University men's soccer team shut out rival Stockton University, 2-0, in an NJAC contest at Rowan Soccer Stadium this evening.
The win gives Rowan (6-1-3; 2-0-1 NJAC) a streak of six straight matches without a loss, as it has three wins and three ties during the stretch. The Profs also ended Stockton's nine-match unbeaten streak as the Ospreys, now 7-2-2 (1-1-1 NJAC), had recorded seven wins and two ties since August 30.
Freshman
Chad Yates opened the scoring for Rowan with a goal at 14:46, that was initiated by
Matt Fahey, after he stole the ball and sent a short pass into the box. Yates then finished with a shot into the lower left side for the first goal of his career. The 1-0 lead would hold up for Rowan into halftime.
Early in the second half, Stockton's Drew Ruble received his second yellow card of the game, at 46:21, which caused Stockton to play a man down for the rest of the match.
Senior co-captain
Ryan Logar sealed the win for the Profs with his first goal of the year, on a shot from just inside the box that deflected past Stockton keeper Dino Gromitsaris at 68:20.
Sophomore goalkeeper
James Weinberg made five saves to record his third shutout of the season for Rowan, while the Profs outshot the Ospreys, 17-11.
"Putting together wins in the conference is tough. We've played three (conference) games and one was a tie so that's frustrating, but we've had two good wins at home and are feeling good right now," said Rowan head coach
Scott Baker.
The Profs, ranked 16th by D3Soccer.com and 17th by the United Soccer Coaches Association, will head to Kean University on Saturday for another NJAC contest.
