ST. DAVID'S, PA – The Rowan volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Eastern University Tri-Match, defeating Widener, 3-1, but falling to Eastern, 3-0.
Rowan (13-14; 4-1 NJAC) defeated Widener (7-17) as
Natalie Ogden had 17 kills and
Kailey Gallagher posted 16 to lead the Profs in the first match of the day.
Jackie Camponelli had six service aces and
Lauren Horbacewicz posted four blocks while
Tori Mock handed out 53 assists in the win.
The Profs trailed 8-7 in the first set, but scored nine straight points to take a 16-8 lead and eventually earn the 25-15 victory. The second set was close with Rowan pulling out a 25-22 victory, while Widener picked up the win in the third by a 27-25 margin. The Profs closed out the match, winning the fourth set 25-15.
Eastern (14-8) scored the straight-set win by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-18. In the first, the Profs pulled to within 20-17, but Eastern was able to close it out. Rowan held a 13-10 lead in the second set, but the Eagles scored nine straight points to take a 19-13 lead and eventually pull out the set. The home team used another 9-0 run to overtake the Profs in the third and decisive set.
Megan Jacobi had 11 kills to pace the Profs with
Simone Sparano serving four aces and picking up 13 digs.
Rowan returns to NJAC play when it visits New Jersey City on Tuesday, October 22.
