Football Travels to #12 Salisbury on Saturday

GLASSBORO, NJ - The Rowan football team (1-4; 1-1 NJAC) will look to keep its momentum going from its Homecoming win last week when it visits 12th-ranked Salisbury (4-0; 2-0) in NJAC action on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium. Rowan Radio (WGLS 89.7) will broadcast the game while live video can be viewed through Salisbury's website.

The Series (Rowan leads 14-11-1)
Rowan has lost two straight, and four of the last five, to Salisbury. The Profs' last win over the Sea Gulls came in 2016 at home.

About the Profs
Rowan notched its first win of the year in commanding fashion with a 52-7 victory over Kean on Homecoming.

About Salisbury
The #12 Sea Gulls are undefeated and have beaten Montclair State and Wesley in NJAC play. QB Jack Lanham threw for 84 yards but ran for 139 yards and a TD in Salisbury's 26-16 win over the-#12 Wesley on Saturday. RB Shamar Gray had three rushing touchdowns as the Sea Gulls racked up 417 total yards of offense.

Last Time vs. Salisbury
Rowan fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter and never recovered as Salisbury ran for 496 yards en route to the 45-7 win over the Profs on October 27, 2018. The Sea Gulls held a 38-0 lead after three quarters before Rowan notched its only score in the final two minutes of the game.

Honorary Profs
Rowan earned two NJAC weekly honors for the first time this season as Sunny Tapp was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Jake Hurler was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week. It marked the first conference honors of the year for the Profs. Tapp, a junior defensive end, had four tackles in the win, including two solos, and recorded 2.0 sacks. He also scooped up a fumble and returned it 60 yards for the Profs' second defensive touchdown of the game and the first of his collegiate career. Tapp is currently second in the NJAC in total sacks.

Hurler, a freshman, contributed to the Homecoming win by connecting on a career-high seven extra points and adding a 25-yard field goal. In addition to the 10 points scored, he averaged 53.0 yards per attempt on a career-high nine kickoffs. Hurler ranks third in the NJAC in PAT percentage (94.4).

Last Time Out
Messiah Divine and Elijah Rehm each scored two touchdowns as Rowan defeated Kean, 52-7, for its first win of the season in front of a Homecoming crowd at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The Profs jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Kean in the first quarter and never looked back, expanding it to 28-0 with two minutes to go in the first half. Rowan opened the game with a six-minute, 11-play drive that resulted in a three-yard reception by Rehm and they kept it going from there. Divine followed with a touchdown on a 34-yard run with 5:00 minutes to go in the quarter. The Profs earned their next score on a defensive play made by Rowan's offensive players. Kean's Jake Zerillo intercepted a pass by Mike Husni but as he was making the return, Nick Grosso stripped the ball, it popped into Divine's hands and he ran it 20 yards into the end zone.

Rowan vs. the Ranked
Salisbury is the third ranked team the Profs will be meeting this year and they are 0-2 so far. Rowan fell to previous #12 Linfield and to #11 Wesley. Rowan's schedule is a challenging one with three opponents in the D3football.com Top 25 (Linfield, Wesley, Salisbury) and one receiving votes (Hobart). Rowan owns a 4-6 record against ranked teams in the past four seasons, with the last victory coming against #8 Wesley, 28-27, on October 20, 2018.

Slim Margin
The Profs' last two losses (Hobart, Wesley) are by a combined margin of four points.

Under Center
Sophomore Mike Husni has thrown for 821 yards and eight touchdowns this season while averaging 3.4 yards per carry. He ranks second in the NJAC in total offense with 205.2 yards per game and fourth in passing with 164.2 yards per game.

Racking It Up
Rowan used scoring on both sides of the ball to record its highest point total since a 59-0 win over Southern Virginia on October 17, 2015, which was also the Homecoming game.

Holding the Line
Rowan's run defense has been solid and ranks 16th in the nation, holding the foes to 61.6 yards per game. The best effort by the Prof defense was -1 net yards by Hobart. The most rushing yards gained by an opponent this year was 132 by Wesley.

Nick of Time
Nick Grosso is averaging 72.8 receiving yards per game, with 17 catches this season. His per-catch average is 17.1 yards.

Long Distance Connection
Mike Husni and Elijah Rehm teamed up for the longest pass play of the year when Rehm scored on a 74-yarder in the win over Kean.

Rehm's Returns
Elijah Rehm is again the Profs' top kick and punt returner. He's averaging 11.0 yards per punt return, which ranks 39th in the nation, and is garnering 16.2 yards on kick returns. His longest punt return of the year is 33 yards, while he had a 22-yard kickoff return. The senior also has a team-high 24 catches this year with an averaging of 48.4 yards per game. He made five catches for 117 yards in the win over Kean, catching two touchdown passes.

Getting Defensive
Coach Accorsi credited senior David Gajderowicz with his play in the win over Kean. The senior had two tackles, 1.5 sacks, one quarterback hit and he forced the fumble that Sunny Tapp scooped and scored on.

The Stoppers
Mike Mascioli leads the Profs in tackles this season with 36 (15 solo, 21 ast), while Anthony LaRosa has 24 and Sunny Tapp has 23. Kameron Kennedy tops the team with 18 solo tackles (22 total). Tapp has a team-high four sacks while David Gajderowicz has 2.5.

Rowan will play its second straight on the road when it visits William Paterson on Oct. 26.
