Women's Basketball Defeats Ramapo, 74-68

MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team won its sixth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game with a 74-68 victory over Ramapo College on Saturday. 
 
The Profs move to 13-7 overall and an 11-2 in the conference. The Roadrunners have a 9-11 record and are 4-9 in the NJAC. 
 
Guard Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) led the way with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists. Guard Dominique Peters (jr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) followed with 17 points and eight boards, while guard Olivia Rulon (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) chipped in 16 points. Forward Jenna Hoffner (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added six points and nine rebounds.
 
For Ramapo, guard Cherie Smedile (jr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) scored 21 points. Forward Jenna Harsh (jr. Metuchen, NJ/Bishop Ahr) was next with 17 points and nine rebounds. Guard Samantha Rinaldi (jr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) contributed seven points and four assists. Center Jessica Repasy (jr. Fredon, NJ/Kittatinny) collected 10 boards. 
 
Rowan opened the first quarter on a 21-2 run. Peters scored 12 points, Rulon added five and Kriley notched four. The Profs dominated defensively scoring 19 points off of Roadrunner turnovers. A layup from Kriley at 2:49 gave the Brown and Gold a 20 point advantage (23-3). Guard Juliette Tobin converted a layup with nine seconds left in the quarter to give Rowan a 26-8 lead. 
 
The Profs kept rolling in the second stanza. Rowan held its largest lead of the game of 24 (38-14) after a 9-0 run. Hoffner made a layup at 7:58, followed by back-to-back layups from guard Kennedy Brown (fr. Newark, DE/The Tatnall School) (6:54). The swing ended when Kriley drained a trey with 6:31. A jumper from Harsh set the score at 46-29 heading into halftime. 
 
Rowan came out hot in the third, scoring three straight baskets for a 53-29 advantage. Rulon nailed a three (9:35), followed by a jumper from Kriley (8:28) and a layup by Hoffner (7:59). The Profs stumbled for the rest of the quarter as the Roadrunners went on a 15-1 run to cut the deficit to 10 (54-44) going into the final frame. 
 
Ramapo scored the first two points in the fourth after Smedile converted a pair of free throws to trail by single digits (54-46). After Kriley scored two baskets, the Roadrunners went on a 7-0 swing to trail, 58-53. Center Tia Solomon (sr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made a layup (7:26) and Smedile hit a three (6:57) and a layup (5:37). Ramapo pulled within four (72-68) with 38 seconds remaining, but a good free throw from Kriley and forward Kailyn Sytsma (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) put the game out of reach to give Rowan the victory.
 
The women's basketball team comes back home to challenge Stockton University on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
