Money Honored By Philadelphia Sports Writers Association

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Rowan University goalkeeper Shelby Money was honored at the 115thAnnual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Dinner on Monday, Jan. 21.  The event was held at the Crowne Plaza.  
 
This year, Money (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-America third team and the Scholar All-America second team.  She was named to the United Soccer Coaches South Atlantic All-Region first team. She was chosen the New Jersey Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and to the All-Conference first team. 
 
In 2018, Money turned away 61 shots for an 85.9 save percentage.  The four year starter compiled a 0.56 goals against average and recorded eight shutouts.  She broke the school record for career shutouts with 36.  The previous mark was 31 shutouts.  
 
Money was also a member of the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region first team and Google Cloud/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District II Women's Soccer Team.  
 
Money ended her career with a 50-10-7 record, an 87.0 save percentage and a 0.47 goals against average.  She tied the Rowan mark for career wins (50) and holds the record for best goals against average for a career (0.47).  Money is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and on the Dean's List.  She is majoring in human performance in clinical settings.    
 
The PSWA award winners included: Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola, Outstanding Pro Athlete; Villanova University graduate and Dallas Mavs Jalen Brunson, Outstanding Amateur Athlete; Tampa Bay Rays Joey Wendle, Native Son and former Philadelphia Eagle Mike Quick, Living Legend. Army quarterback Kelvin Hopkins, Jr. was honored as the Army-Navy game Most Valuable Player. 
 
Phillies longtime director of travel and clubhouse services Frank Coppenbarger, Temple University's Paul Palmer  and Jayson Stark received Special Achievement Awards. Temple University men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy was presented with the association's Good Guy Award.  The Philadelphia Eagles and the Villanova basketball teams were the Pro and College Teams of the Year.  Sonny Hill was the recipient of the Ed Snider Lifetime Humanitarian award.   
 
Philadelphia Flyers/Phillies announcer Jim Jackson and Hall of Fame football writer Ray Didinger were recognized for their work as broadcast and print journalists respectively.  Jackson received the Bill Campbell Broadcasters Award and the Stan Hockman Award went to Didinger.  The Frank Dolson/Penn Relays Award winner was Villanova University's Nicole Hutchinson.     
 
The PSWA honored the Eastern High School field hockey team that had a 27-0 record.  The seniors finished with a career record of 106-2-1 with four state championships and the 2018 New Jersey Tournament of Champions title.  At the end of the evening, the Most Courageous Award was presented to former Philadelphia Flyers Brian Propp who suffered a massive stroke in 2015.
