Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Edged By NYU In Overtime, 1-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team lost 1-0 in overtime against New York University (NYU) in the last game of the Gilmore Alumni Classic on Saturday night.  Both teams are 1-1 on the season.

It was a gritty hard-fought battle between both teams all game, as neither could fine the back of the net during regulation. After two failed shots attempts from back Jackson Nwokeoma (fr. Houston, TX/Madonna Secondary School (Nigeria)) and back Matt Fahey (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), NYU capitalized on a fast break opportunity in the 97th minute.  Forward Owen Smith (jr. Laguna Beach, CA/St. Margaret's Episcopal) scored the winning goal with an assist from forward Maxi Rodriguez (so. Chula Vista, CA/St. Augustine).

In the other second round game, Rutgers-Camden blanked SUNY Old Westbury, 2-0. Rutgers-Camden was the only team to finish the tournament 2-0.

Rowan started hot in the first firing off nine shots, but only one hit the frame. The Profs' defense stepped up limiting NYU to three shots throughout the half.

The Brown and Gold were tested midway through the second, as a player was awarded a red card, which gave NYU a man-disadvantage for the remainder of the match. Rowan buckled down defensively as it only allowed one shot on goal. Back Nick Schlageter (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) gave the Profs their best chance to score off a header, but it was denied by goalie Grant Engel (sr. New York, NY/The Birch Wathen Lenox).

Rowan totaled 15 shots throughout the game, compared to the Bobcats' nine. Profs' goalie Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) ended the game with three saves, while Engel stopped four shots.

The Brown and Gold look to get back to its winnings way when it travels to Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday, Sept. 5,  with the game set to start at 4:30 p.m.
