GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team cruised to a 95-56 win over Eastern University on Saturday night.
Guard
DaRon Curry (sr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) scored 16 points and guard
Nick DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) contributed with 14. DePersia also had four rebounds and four assists. Guard
Rob DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) totaled 11 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Forwards
Austin Kearney (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester County Christian) and
Brian Thatcher (jr. North Port, FL/Charlotte) each chipped in with 11 points. Guard/forward
Ramon Wright (sr. Newark, NJ/Irvington) grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Guard
Connor Dickerson (fr. Marlton, NJ/Moorestown) and forward
Teirique Robinson (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) registered six boards apiece.
The Profs are 7-3 overall while the Eagles have a 6-3 record. Guard Austin Duncan (sr. Knoxville, TN/Bearden) led Eastern with 15 points. Guard Darius Washington (sr. Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) had eight points. Forward Michael Bowlers (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln) added seven points and eight rebounds.
In the first half,
Nick DePersia's three-pointer gave Rowan a nine-point advantage (18-9) at 12:42. Guard Clifton Adams (jr. New Sarpy, LA/Destrehan) had a layup (12:23) and Duncan hit a three (11:52) to pull within four points (18-14) at 11:52. The Profs followed with a 16-4 run to lead by 16 (34-18) with 5:33 left. Kearny and Curry each scored seven points and forward
Jonathan Hevalow (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/Atlantic Christian School) had a basket. Rowan was ahead 40-27 at the half.
Curry scored with a layup (14:11) in the second stanza and put Rowan up by 27 points (59-32). Hevalow sank two foul shots to lead 72-41 with 7:55 remaining. Thatcher's three-pointer made the score 81-45 (4:33). The Profs' biggest lead of the game was 39 points at the end (95-56).
Next week, Rowan is home against Salisbury University on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.
