GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team won 121-82 against Penn State Brandywine in the championship of the LaScala's Fire Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.
The Profs are 2-0 on the season. In the first round on Thursday, Rowan defeated Rosemont College, 96-87. Widener University came from behind to defeat Rosemont, 85-82 in the consolation game.
Guard
Connor Dickerson (fr. Marlton, NJ/Moorestown) scored 17 points for Rowan. Guards
Nick DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) and
DaRon Curry (sr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA) and forward
Teirique Robinson (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) each contributed with 15 points. Forward
Brian Thatcher (jr. North Port, FL/Charlotte) chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Guard
Rob DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) collected eight assists.
Dickerson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Nick DePersia and Curry were selected to the All-Tournament Team. They were joined by Penn State Brandywine's Dwyane Coleman (so. Philadelphia, PA/Delaware Valley Charter), Widener's Tyler Drews ..(sr. Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and Rosemont's Keith Blassingale (jr. Philadelphia, PA/New Foundations).
For Penn State Brandywine, guard/forward R.J. Dixon (fr. Reading, PA/Reading) totaled 14 points and guard Jacob Hunt (fr. Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) followed with 13. Forward Anthony Lattanzi (so. Downingtown, PA/Downingtown W.) added 10 points.
The Profs had a 23-point advantage after the first half. Dickerson's three (4:33) made the score 40-28. With 4:28 remaining, the Lions trailed 40-30 then Rowan closed the stanza with a 17-4 run. Guard
Ryan Legler (so. Stone Harbor, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) scored 10 points in the surge.
Nick DePersia put the Profs up by 41 (77-36) with a three-pointer and foul shot at 17:17 in the second half. Thatcher nailed a three and the score was 102-62 (9:55). Forward
Adonis Ware (fr. Hillside, NJ/Greenbrier (GA)) made the score 107-65 (7:02) with a three-pointer. Every player on the Rowan team got into the game and contributed in the scoring.
Next week, the Profs travel to Neumann University on Wednesday, Nov. 14 for a 7 p.m. game.
