ASTON, PA – The Rowan University men's basketball team won 88-78 at Neumann University on Wednesday night.
The Profs had six players in double figures. Forward
Austin Kearney (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester) scored 19 points. Guard/forward
Ramon Wright (sr. Newark, NJ/Irvington) contributed with 14 points and six boards. Guards
Nick DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) and
Rob DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) followed with 13 points apiece. Forward
Teirique Robinson (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) and guard
Connor Dickerson (fr. Marlton, NJ/Moorestown) each chipped in with 10 points. Robinson also pulled down eight rebounds.
Rowan is 3-0 overall while Neumann is 2-2 on the season. For the Knights, forward Aaron Johnson-Chavis (so. Philadelphia, PA/Kestrel Heights) recorded a double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds. Forward Mark Perry (sr. Harrisburg, PA/Steelton Highspire) scored 17 points and guard Raquan Brown-Johnson (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King) added 11.
In the final half,
Nick DePersia's layup made the score 53-49 (16:11). Kearney scored and the Profs remained on top 55-52 at 14:36. Johnson-Chavis tied the score at 58 (11:15) with a dunk. The game was tied two more times before Rowan took the lead for good. Neumann was ahead 64-63 with 9:47 remaining.
Nick DePersia took back the lead (66-64) with a three at the seven minute mark. Wright then had a layup and a foul shot (6:22) that put the Profs up by five (69-64). Kearney's layup (1:42) gave Rowan an 11 point advantage (80-69). The Profs' final eight points came at the free throw line with
Rob DePersia contributing with six and Dickerson had two.
The Profs started the game with 17 unanswered points in the first three minutes but the Knights came back and the score was tied at 45 after the first half.
Nick DePersia nailed two three-pointers in the run. Neumann pulled within one (38-37) at 2:33 after eight straight points. The Knights had six points at the line and a layup from Johnson-Chavis.
Rowan was ahead 42-40 with 1:11 left. Perry (0:32) and guard Jaquan Johnson (sr. Chester, PA/Lower Merion) (0:21) made back-to-back baskets. Forward Sanoussi Abdourhamane (jr. Darby, PA/Lycee Bombey (Nianey, Niger)) hit two free throws (0:19) to lead 45-42. At the 13-second mark,
Rob DePersia tied the score with a three-pointer.
Next week, Rowan starts its conference schedule at Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.
