CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 86-75 in the conference opener on Tuesday night.
Guard
Nick DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) led the way with 26 points, which included seven three-pointers. Guard
Connor Dickerson (fr. Marlton, NJ/Moorestown) came off the bench and contributed with 14 points. Forward
Austin Kearney (jr. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester) followed with 10 points and forward
Marko Pantovic (so. Belgrade, Serbia/Zeumun) added nine.
Guard/forward
Ramon Wright (sr. Newark, NJ/Irvington) grabbed seven rebounds while forward
Teirique Robinson (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) had five. Robinson also chipped in with eight points. Guard
Rob DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) dished six assists and collected five boards.
Rowan is undefeated with a 4-0 record while Rutgers-Camden is 0-4 on the season. For the Scarlet Raptors, guard Ian McCarthy (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored 19 points and guard Trai Greer (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Middle Twp.) totaled 16. McCarthy and Greer each registered six boards. Guard Kyle Goodson (so. Penns Grove, NJ/Penns Grove) recorded a game-high 11 rebounds. Guard Tyrell Russell (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had 11 points.
In the second half, McCarthy nailed a three (13:56) and cut the deficit to 16 (50-34). Rowan led 52-34 (13:35) after a jumper by Pantovic. Rutgers-Camden followed with a 13-3 run to trail by eight points (55-47) at 10:54. McCarthy and Russell each produced five points and Perry had a three-pointer.
The Profs led by 12 (62-50) after Dickerson hit a three (8:29).
Nick DePersia nailed back-to-back three-pointers to lead 70-54 (6:12). He then made the score 73-56 with a three with 5:36 remaining. The closest the Scarlet Raptors came was nine points (80-71) at 2:06. Kearney sank two free throws (1:50) and
Rob DePersia had a layup (1:20) to lead 84-71.
Rob DePersia had a layup (0:25) and Greer followed with a basket (0:16) to end the game.
Rowan jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
Nick DePersia hit two three-pointers and Robinson made two baskets. The Profs were ahead 10-5 at 14:31 then scored 12 straight points for a 17-point advantage (22-5) with 11:19 remaining.
Nick DePersia contributed with six points in the surge.
Robinson made two foul shots and the score was 27-11 with 7:02 on the clock. The Scarlet Raptors trailed by 14 (31-17) with 4:07 left. Rowan scored nine points to lead 40-17 (1:49). Dickerson contributed with five points in the run. The Profs were ahead 44-24 at the break.
