Rowan Men's Soccer Rolls Over New Jersey City, 6-0

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan men's soccer team rolled over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent New Jersey City University, 6-0 on Saturday.
 
The Profs are now 9-4 (3-2 NJAC) on the year and the Gothic Knights post a 5-6 (0-5 NJAC) mark. 
 
It was a back-and-forth contest early on in the opening half, until forward Ryan Campbell (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) broke the stalemate in the 17th minute, to give the Profs a 1-0 advantage. Campbell doubled up in the 38th minute, when he put one in with assists from back Nick Schlageter (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) and midfielder Kevin Pereira (Allentown, NJ/Allentown), to take a 2-0 lead. 
 
The score remained the same until the 76th minute when Rowan registered four goals over a span of just over 10 minutes. Forward Shane Doherty (sr. Delran, NJ/Delran) notched the first goal on the run in the 76th minute (assisted by Pereira), followed by back Jackson Nwokeoma (fr. Houston, TX/Madonna Secondary School (Nigeria)) in the 84th. Thirty-three seconds later, Doherty tallied his second on the day, when he poked in a loose ball in front of the net. Nwokeoma had the assist. The final goal was recorded by back Will Sjaastad (sr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) off a freekick, to set the final score at 6-0. 
 
Goalie Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played 56 minutes and stopped one shot, while goalie Joe Magiera (fr. Garfield, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) played 30 minutes and saved one. Noah Baker (jr. Marlboro, NJ/Colts Neck) played the final three minutes.
 
For the Gothic Knights, goalie Eric Lopes Silva (so. Newark, NJ/Newark East Side) played the entire game and racked up 14 saves. 
 
The Rowan men's soccer team travels to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Oct. 13, with the game set to start at 7:30 p.m.
