NEWARK, NJ – The Rowan University soccer team scored three goals in the first half en route to a 4-0 win over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Rutgers-Newark on Saturday.
The Profs are now 10-4 (4-2 NJAC) on the year, while the Scarlet Raiders are 7-8-1 (2-5 NJAC).
Rowan wasted no time as it took a 1-0 advantage four minutes into the contest. Forward
Ryan Campbell (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) notched the first goal after he received a header pass from midfielder
Modou Sowe (jr. Harrison, NJ/Harrison). The Brown and Gold doubled up in the 21st minute when midfielder
Kevin Primich (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Allentown) blasted a shot into the far post to pull ahead, 2-0. Campbell notched his second on the night when forward
Shane Doherty (sr. Delran, NJ/Delran) fed him the ball for a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Profs put the game out of reach 4-0 late in the second half, when Campbell completed the hat-trick scoring his third goal in the 74th minute.
Rowan outshot Rutgers-Newark, 28-7 over the 90-minutes of action.
Campbell finished the contest with three goals, while Doherty dished two assists. Goalie
Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played in net and racked up three saves.
For the Scarlet Raiders, goalie Christian Andrach (fr. Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park Mem.) totaled 12 saves.
The Rowan men's soccer team is back-in-action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., when it hosts conference rival Rutgers-Camden.
