Shane Doherty scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute to lift the Rowan University men's soccer team over Rutgers-Camden, 2-1 on Wednesday. With the win, the Profs move to second place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings.
Doherty (sr. Delran, NJ/Delran) beat a defender and carried the ball into the 18-yard box. He took a shot, but a Rutgers-Camden player miss hit his kick and the ball went in to give Rowan the win.
The Profs now have a record of 11-4 (5-2 NJAC) on the year, while the Scarlet Raptors are 11-4-2 (4-2-1 NJAC).
It was a stalemate in the first half as neither team could find the back of the net. Rowan ripped off 12 shots compared to the Scarlet Raptors' three. Forward
Ryan Campbell (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) tested the keeper taking six shots.
The Brown and Gold struck first in the 75th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Campbell carried the ball from midfield, weaving through the entire Rutgers-Camden defense to create a breakaway and slotted his shot to the lower right corner. The Scarlet Raptors answered four minutes later in the 79th minute to tie the game, when back Trenton Hall (jr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) scored on a volley strike to the far-left post. Kevin Primich (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Allentown) tried to notch a late goal with a header, but it was saved and both teams headed into overtime.

Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played 96 minutes in net and finished with four saves. Rutgers-Camden goalie James Brett (sr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) played the full-time racking up 11 saves.
The Rowan men's soccer team stays at home for another conference matchup, when it faces Ramapo College on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
