EWING, NJ – The Rowan University women's swimming & diving team defeated The College of New Jersey, 220-77 for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on Saturday.
The Profs are 8-2 overall and they finish undefeated (5-0) in the conference. It is Rowan's second straight NJAC title and 11
th overall.
The 200 medley relay of
Daria Mnich (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson),
Megan Miller (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.),
Gabby Gligor (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and
Miranda Coughlan (jr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had a winning time of 1:50.95. The 400 freestyle relay swam 3:42.58 for first place.
Elizabeth O'Brien (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.),
Antonia Simunek (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway),
Veronica Alferez (fr. Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park Mem.) and Coughlan were on the free relay.
Coughlan claimed first in the 50 (25.01) and 100 (54.72) freestyles.
Carlee Timmins (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) was the winner in the 500 (5:20.24) and 1000 (10:43.05) freestyles. She also had a fourth place (2:01.12) in the 200 free.
Alferez took first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.69) and 200 butterfly (2:16.06). She had a second place (1:01.09) in the 100 butterfly.
Emily Kopchick (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) touched first (1:09.42) in the 100 breaststroke.
Emily LaBenski (so. Wenonah, NJ/Deptford Twp.) captured first in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.01) and 200 individual medley (2:16.00). She was third (2:18.89) in the 200 butterfly.
Alex Bambrick (so. Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) won the 100 (1:00.83) and 200 (2:12.31) backstrokes. She came in second (10:50.82) in the 1000 freestyle. Gligor finished first (1:00.83) in the 100 butterfly and second (2:17.95) in the 200 butterfly.
Corinne Finkbinder (so. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won the three-meter diving with 231.45 points and she was second (230.33) on the one-meter board.
Klaudia Rzotkiewicz (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) finished third (229.28) in the one-meter diving and
Kelly McQueston (fr. Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was fourth (188.33). Rzotkiewicz had a second place (222.23) in the three-meter.
In the 100 backstroke,
Amanda Burke (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) took second (1:02.87) followed by O'Brien, third (1:03.08). O'Brien and Burke were second (2:14.94) and third (2:15.07) in the 200 backstroke. Miller finished second (1:09.48) in the 100 breaststroke and fourth (57.31) in the 100 freestyle. Siminuek came in second (55.94) in the 100 freestyle. She had third places in the 50 (25.66) and 200 (2:00.83) freestyles. Mnich came in third (1:02.04) in the 100 butterfly.
Next week, Rowan hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. It is the Profs' final home meet of the season. The women's swimming & diving team will honor its seniors before the meet and it is also Alumni Day.
