Box Score GALLOWAY, NJ – The Stockton University men's basketball team stopped Rowan University, 74-68 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
Forward Kelvin Tull (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Kevin Allen (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) contributed with 12 points off the bench. Guard Zavon Johnson (sr. Trenton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) and forward Darius Jerkins (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland) each chipped in with 10 points. Forward Jordan Taylor (so. East Orange, NJ/Cicely Tyson) added nine points and seven boards.
The Ospreys are 11-6 overall and 5-5 in the conference. The Profs have an 8-9 record with a 4-6 NJAC mark.
For Rowan, forward
Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) totaled 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Forward
TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) followed with 17 points and nine boards. Guard
Rob DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) was in double figures with 10 points.
The Ospreys held on to the lead the entire second half. Taylor's three-pointer put Stockton up by nine points (53-44) at the 12:55 mark. Wright made a three (11:28) and forward
Austin Kearney (so. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester County Christian) had a layup (10:31) to pull the Profs within four (53-49). Stockton answered with a 10-2 run to lead by 12 (63-51) with 6:25 left. Johnson scored five points, Allen made a three and Jerkins added a basket.
Rowan came back and trailed by three points (65-62) after a jumper at 4:15 by guard
DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)). With 2:32 remaining, Tull's basket made the score 69-62. Booth had a layup and a free throw (0:49) and the Profs were down by three (71-68). Tull hit the first of two foul shots (0:24) and Allen had two points at the line (0:04) to seal the victory.
The Profs led as much as nine points in the first half. They were ahead 26-20 (5:20) after a three-pointer by DePersia. Stockton scored eight straight points for a two-point advantage (28-26) with 2:44 remaining. It was the Osprey's first lead of the game. Taylor tied the score at 26 with a three (3:16) and Jerkins produced the go ahead basket. Another three by Taylor at 1:19 gave the Opsreys a five-point advantage (33-28). Wright sank a free throw (0:49) and DePersia hit a three-pointer (0:00) to the end period. Stockton had a one-point lead (33-32) at the break.
