Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team dropped the opening set but recovered to win the next three for a 3-1 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night.
The set scores were 24-26, 25-11, 25-12 and 25-21. The Profs improve to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference. It was their third straight win. The Scarlet Raptors drop to 4-8 with a 1-1 NJAC mark.
Outside hitters
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) posted 11 and 10 kills respectively. Middle hitter
Lauren Horbacewicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) followed with eight kills and added four blocks. Setter
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) totaled 23 assists and setter
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) tallied 18. Defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) and outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) produced 16 and 15 digs respectively.
Rutgers-Camden outside hitter Cortnee Wilkerson (sr. Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) recorded 11 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Setter/outside hitter Alyson Lowe (fr. Havertown, PA/Haverford) registered 14 assists and defensive specialist/setter Meghan Gallagher (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) amassed 12. Libero/defensive specialist Natalie DiGiacomo (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and defensive specialist/libero Ashley Newman (fr. Collegeville, PA/Methacton) contributed with 14 and 10 digs respectively.
Rowan was ahead 24-23 in the first set. Wilkerson had a pair of kills and the Profs made an attack error to give the Scarlet Raptors a one-set lead. Down 4-3 in the second, Rowan rallied for 10 of the next 11 points to take a 13-5 advantage. With a 17-11 cushion, the Profs recorded eight consecutive points to even the match at one set apiece.
Rowan was up by two (11-9) in the third stanza before another 10-1 run gave the Profs some breathing room on the way to the third set victory. Rowan never trailed in the final set and a Rutgers-Camden error gave the Profs the match.
The volleyball team plays Elizabethtown College in the Knights Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.
