Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team defeated Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 in the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match of the season on Tuesday night.
The set scores were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14. The Profs have a 4-5 record while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 2-3. It was Rowan's 11
th straight victory over Rutgers-Newark.
Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and middle hitter
Lauren Horbacewicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) each tallied eight kills. Setters
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) totaled 22 and 13 assists respectively. Paxson added 10 digs. Defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) produced 20 digs and middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) followed with 18. Outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) contributed with six kills and three blocks.
Outside hitter Cassie Luken (jr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) led the Scarlet Raiders with a match-high 10 kills. Setter/defensive specialist Karly Gregoire (fr. Linden, NJ/Union Catholic) amassed 22 assists. Libero Sue Riley (sr. Rahway, NJ/Roselle Catholic) and outside hitter Morgan Schweitzer (sr. Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) registered 24 and 16 digs respectively. Outside hitter/right side Comfort Akinbo (so. Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) had three blocks.
The Profs owned a 19-16 lead in the opening set before closing it out with six of the final seven points. Middle hitter/opposite
Gina Kisley (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus), Gallagher and Horbacewicz each had a kill and Rutgers-Newark committed three errors. Horbacewicz's kill finished off the second set before Rowan started the third with nine of the first 10 points. Horbacewicz and Gallagher each recorded two kills, Jacobi added one, Staiber had a service ace and the Scarlet Raiders had three miscues. Kisley's kill gave the Profs the victory.
Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m.
