2017 NJAC All-Conference Baseball Team
PITMAN, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had three players named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference Team on Wednesday.
Outfielder
Jason Clapper (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was selected to the first team, right-handed pitcher
Andrew Cohen (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was a member of the second team and designated hitter
Shawn Leydon (jr. Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) earned honorable mention. It is the first All-Conference nod for all three Profs.
Clapper has started in 39 of 40 games played. He leads the team in hitting (.359), slugging percentage (.465), runs (33), hits (51), total bases (66), walks (25) and stolen bases (7) and is tied for first in home runs (2). Clapper has also totaled seven doubles and one triple. A team captain, he ranks fifth in the NJAC in on base percentage (.465) and walks, tied for fifth in hits, sixth in batting average and tied for sixth in runs. Clapper has recorded 16 multi-hit games this season.
Cohen has made 10 appearances on the mound, including seven starts. He has compiled a 4-4 record, 2.65 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 54.1 innings. Cohen has tossed one complete game and opponents have hit just .238 against him. He is first on the squad in strikeouts, second in ERA, tied for second in wins and third in innings pitched and opposing batting average. In the conference statistics, Cohen is tied for third in strikeouts and sixth in ERA. He has had six outings where he has allowed two runs or less.
Leydon has appeared in 28 contests with 16 starts. He is second on the team in hitting (.348) and has tallied one double, one home run, 11 RBIs and 11 runs. Leydon ranks 10
th in on base percentage (.458) in the conference-only stats.
Rowan is 27-14 overall and the third seed in the conference tournament.
