EASTLAKE, OHIO - Rowan continued its run in the 2025 NCAA Division III World Series with a 6-1 win over #4 Denison as freshman
Austin Kreyenhagen went the distance and the Profs' bats came through again. Rowan will now play UW-Whitewater on Monday at 1:15 p.m. at Classic Auto Group Park and attempt to give the Warhawks their first loss of the tournament.
ROWAN POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
Rowan (38-11) will need to defeat UW-Whitewater twice on Monday to eliminate the Warhawks and move on. If a second game is necessary, the start time will depend on the outcome of Monday's 10 a.m. game between undefeated Messiah and Endicott.
Kreyenhagen (5-1), a righthander, was making his first start since April 25th when he earned a win against Rutgers-Newark, although he made a brief appearance in the Profs' loss to Denison on Friday. Tonight, threw 141 pitches in nine innings, recorded a career-high eight strikeouts and allowed just five hits by the Big Red.
Jason Morgan went 3-for-5 with an RBI and
Marco Mannino had two hits, including a two-run double.
Brayden Davis,
Tyler Cannon and
Joey Bogart each drove in a run as well.
The Profs struck first in the second as Davis reached base on an error, moved on a passed ball, advanced on a ground out and scored on Bogart's single. Denison picked up its only run off Kreyenhagen in the third to tie the game.
Rowan took the lead for good in the fourth as Davis led off with a single, eventually advanced to third and came home on Cannon's RBI single.
In the sixth,
Karson Harcourt singled and
Phil Sedalis was intentionally walked. With two outs, Mannino stroked a two-run double in the sixth to increase Rowan's lead to 4-1. Morgan followed with a single to bring home Mannino and up the lead to 5-1.
The Profs added one more in the ninth as Davis doubled and scored Morgan, who had reached on an error.
The win over Denison was the first in four tries as Rowan lost twice last year in the 2024 NCAA Granville Regional and then fell to the Big Red, 12-10, in the World Series opener on Friday.
Now owning a 2-1 record in the double-elimination tournament, it marks the first time Rowan has won two games in Division III World Series play since 1979 when the Profs won their second straight national championship.
