PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rowan University men's swimming and diving team finished the second day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday night. The three-day meet ends on Sunday at Rutgers University.
Mike Simunek (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) won the 100 breaststroke in 56.07. He recorded a school record and NCAA B cut (56.83) in the prelims with a time of 55.80. Simunek improved on his previous University mark of 56.01.
The 200 medley relay had a winning time of 1:30.66, which was a NCAA B cut (1:31.79).
Dan Lawton (so. Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), Simunek,
Nick Marks (sr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and
Jesse Novak (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) were on the medley relay.
Paul Long (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) took third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.73, which was a NCAA B cut. The 800 freestyle relay of Long,
Eric Feuerstein (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit),
Nate Wojtowicz (so. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) and
John Tepper (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Atlantic County Institute of Tech.) finished third (6:49.28).
Marks came in fourth (49.76) in the 100 butterfly and Novak had a sixth place (50.89).
Marc Gernhardt (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) took seventh (51.04) followed by
Nick Marte (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn), eighth (51.41) and
Jake Kayati (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown), ninth (50.72).
In the 100 backstroke, Lawton and
Adam Sicinski (so. Allentown, PA/Parkland) were fourth (51.51) and fifth (51.58) respectively.
Colin Fisher (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished fifth (4:08.47) in the 400 individual medley. Feuerstein swam 1:40.98 in the 200 freestyle and was sixth while Tepper was ninth (1:42.25).
Matt Grubb (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had a fifth place (57.01) in the 100 breaststroke.
Luke Wister (sr. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) finished 11th (4:13.37) in the 400 individual medley.
The Metropolitan Championships trials on Sunday start at 9:30 a.m. and the finals in the evening are at 5:30 p.m.
