Box Score SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University men's basketball team ended its three-game losing streak with an 87-69 victory at Salisbury University on Wednesday night.
The Profs had four players that scored in double figures. Guard
Jeff Haddock (so. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) led the way with 19 points. He was six for 11 from the floor with five three-pointers. Forward
Austin Kearney (so. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester County Christian) contributed with 15 points and guard
DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) followed with 14. Curry also dished seven assists.
Guard
Nick DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) chipped in with 12 points and seven assists. Forwards
TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Wiliamstown) and
Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) each grabbed 13 rebounds and had nine points.
Rowan improves to 6-4 on the season while Salisbury is 5-4 overall. For the Sea Gulls, forward Chad Barcikowski (sr. Sykesville, MD/Liberty) scored 14 points and guard Blair Davis (jr. Towson, MD/City) added 12. Guards Al Leder (so. Bethesda, MD/Bullis) and Mike Ward (fr. Woodstock, MD/St. Paul's) added 10 points apiece.
The Profs were ahead 44-42 going into the second half. The Sea Gulls had the first basket, which tied the score (19:46). Rowan used a 10-2 run to lead by eight (54-46) at 14:06. Four different players scored in the surge. Curry increased the advantage to 12 (64-52) with two foul shots (10:44). Haddock hit a three (5:32) and the score was 75-60. Kearney's layup with 1:08 left put the Profs up by 18 points (85-67). Davis answered with a basket (0:54) while Curry made the final two points of the game (0:28). Haddock led all scorers with 11 points in the final period.
The score was tied five times and there were seven lead changes in the first half. Salisbury had a six-point lead twice. The last was at 13:32 (16-10) after Davis nailed a three-pointer. Kearney followed with a three (12:45) and a layup (11:55) to cut the deficit to one. With 10:56 on the clock, the Sea Gulls were ahead by two (19-17). Rowan produced seven straight points to lead by five (24-19) at 9:15. Curry had five of the seven points. The final tie was at 42 with 1:06 left after a Davis free throw. DePersia's layup (0:57) put the Profs up by two (44-42) at the break.
Rowan travels to Virginia for the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28 and 29. The Profs play Hobart College on Friday at 5 p.m. while Frostburg State University meets Randolph-Macon at 7 p.m. The consolation and championship are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. respectively on Saturday.
