WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team outscored William Paterson University, 34-17 in the fourth quarter for a 99-79 road New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Pioneers are 4-2 with a 2-1 NJAC mark.
Guard/forward
Alex Raring (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) led Rowan with a career-high 22 points. She also dished six assists. Guard
Olivia Rulon (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) totaled 17 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Dominique Peters (so. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) produced 16 points, nine boards, four assists and three steals. Guard
Summer Crilley (sr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Center
April Szymczyk (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) and guard
Juliette Tobin (fr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford Twp.) each scored 11 points. The Profs shot 46 percent, including 52 percent from beyond the arc.
William Paterson forward Tori Woetzel (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) recorded 16 points. Guard Ashley Castillo (jr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) registered 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Guards Julie Rovito (jr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) and Sihana Asani (jr. Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) contributed with 13 points apiece. Rovito added seven boards, seven assists and four steals.
Rowan began the final period with a 65-62 lead. Castillo made a jumper (9:44) and Asani had a layup (8:55) to put the Pioneers in front 66-65. Raring's jump shot (6:35) and a Crilley three-pointer (6:06) gave the Profs a seven-point advantage (75-68). Guard Brianna Brooks (fr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) converted a layup and William Paterson trailed by five (78-73) with 5:19 remaining. Rowan then pulled away with a 13-0 run. Szymczyk and Crilley led the charge with four points apiece. The Profs were ahead 91-73 at the end of the stretch (2:23).
There were three ties in the opening quarter with the last coming at 6:43 (10-10). The Pioneers ended the frame with a 12-5 surge. Five different players scored in the run and the score was 22-15. Rowan started the second with a 16-3 rally, taking a 31-25 lead with 4:13 on the clock. Peters scored five points, Rulon added four, Crilley sank a three and guard
Samantha Tello (so. Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Mary's) and Raring each chipped in with two. The Profs took a 37-34 cushion into the break.
Rowan scored the first eight points of the third to increase the lead to 11 (45-34). With the score 49-38, William Paterson embarked on a 15-2 run to erase the deficit and take a two-point edge (53-51) with 5:38 to go. Castillo led the way with six points.
