Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to visiting Rutgers-Newark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Game on Saturday night.
Midfielder Hubert Dul (sr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) scored the winning goal with 10:27 remaining with an assist from forward Fabio De Sousa (so. Long Branch, NJ/Saint Benedict's Prep). De Sousa took a free kick from just outside the box on the right side. His kick cut through to the left side where Dul headed it into the right side of the goal.
The Profs are 17-3-1 overall and they were the top seed in the conference tournament. It is the first NJAC title for the second-seeded Scarlet Raiders (20-2) and they earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The national selection show is on Monday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
Rowan outshot Rutgers-Newark, 21-12 but could not beat goalkeeper Andres Medina (so. Howell, NJ/Saint Benedict's Prep). Medina finished with five saves and Prof goalie Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) also stopped five shots. The Profs had five shots and two corner kicks in the final minutes but could not find the equalizer.
