Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Neumann University, 109-97 for its third straight win on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs had six players that scored in double figures. Guard/forward Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) compiled a career high 24 points. He also totaled six rebounds and four blocks. Forward
TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) improved on his career mark with 20 points and he grabbed seven boards. Guard Nick DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) contributed with 15 points.
Guard Walter Harvey (fr. Woolwich, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) produced 14 points while guard Rob DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) and guard DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) added 11 and 10 points respectively. Rob DePersia and Curry each dished six assists.
Both teams are 3-1 on the season. For the Knights, guard Tyaire Hudson (sr. Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo. Tech.) totaled 19 points and eight rebounds. Guard Raquan Brown-Johnson (so. Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King) and guard Kawaun Chavis (sr. Philadelphia, PA/George Washington) registered 16 and 15 points respectively.
Forward Aaron Johnson-Chavis (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Kestrel Heights) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Billy Cassidy (sr. Primos, PA/Friends Central) and forward Isaiah Wilmore (so. Philadelphia, PA/Benjamin Franklin) chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Rowan trailed by four points (63-59) to start the second stanza and took the lead with a 12-4 run (71-67) at 16:40. Wright scored four points while Booth and Nick DePersia each nailed a three-pointer and Rob DePersia had two points. At 14:04, Wright had a dunk and Rowan led by eight (80-72).
Hudson's layup (12:17) gave the Knights an 82-81 lead with 12:17 on the clock. Neumann remained on top until Wright's dunk put Rowan up by one-point (90-89) with 9:15 left. The Knights were ahead for the last time (91-90) after Brown-Johnson's basket (9:09). They tied the score at 93 (8:17) when Brown-Johnson scored with a layup. The Profs built a seven-point advantage (102-95) with a 9-2 spurt and 2:51 remaining. Four different players contributed in run. Wright's foul shot (2:14) made the score 105-95. Rob DePersia ended the scoring (0:19) with a layup for Rowan's biggest lead of 12 points (109-97).
The score was tied five times and there were four lead changes in the first half. Chavis had two straight baskets, which put Neumann ahead 27-19 at 12:48. The Profs followed with a 13-3 run to go ahead 32-30 (9:45). Harvey and Booth each contributed with four points in the surge. Wright followed with three points and forward
Tommy Smierciak (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had two.
The last tie was at 48 (4:55) after Curry sank two free throws. The Knights answered with a three from Johnson-Chavis (4:33). They held on to the lead for the remainder of the period and had a four-point advantage (63-59) at the break. Wilmore had two points at the line with one second left on the clock. Johnson-Chavis and Booth each posted 13 points in the first half.
