Albright Men's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 85-63

Box Score SELINSGROVE, PA – The Albright College men's basketball team defeated Rowan University, 85-63 in the first round of the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.  It was the Profs' season opener. 
 
In the other first round game, King's College won 93-89 over host Susquehanna University.  Albright (2-0) advances to the championship versus King's at 3 p.m. on Saturday.  The consolation game with Rowan and Susquehanna is prior at 1 p.m.  
 
The Lions had five players that scored in double figures.  Guard DeLascio Dancy (so. Temple Hills, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Guard/forward Fred Rowles (so. Fort Washington, MD/Capitol Christian Academy), center Jared Rappoport (jr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and guard DeJuan Smith (sr. Bowie, MD/Bowie) all contributed with 12 points.  Smith and Rowles grabbed 12 and 11 boards respectively.  Guard Samuel Majekodunmi (fr. Staten Island, NY/Curtis) chipped in with 10 points. 
 
For the Profs, forward Austin Kearney (so. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester County Christian) totaled 13 points and six rebounds.  Guard/forward Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) pulled down a game-high 14 boards and scored 12 points.  Guard DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) and guard Nick DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) added seven points apiece.  Forward TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) registered seven rebounds.
 
Albright started the second half with 13 unanswered points to lead 48-34 at 17:12.  In the surge, the Lions hit three three-pointers.  Guard Jaylin Calloway (sr. West Lawn, PA/Wilson) produced two threes while Dancy had one.  Rappoport's layup put Albright up by 15 points (50-35) with 16:13 on the clock. 
 
Guard Jeff Haddock (so. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) cut the deficit to 10 (52-42) with a three (14:33).  Albright was ahead 60-46 (11:20) after center Isaiah Harris' (fr. Edgewater, NJ/BCIT/Westampton) basket.  Dancy drilled a three (8:57) and the score was 70-53.  Smith followed with a layup and the lead was 19 points (72-53) at 7:52. Dancy made another three (6:43), which made the score 77-55.  The Lions outscored the Profs, 50-29 in the final period.
 
In the first half, Kearney's layup put Rowan ahead 16-10 at 13:39.  Albright followed with 10 straight points to lead by four (20-16) with 10:14 remaining.  The score was tied four more times.  The last tie was at 31 (3:11) after DePersia's basket.  Rowles scored (2:54) then Kearney nailed a three-pointer (1:32) for a Profs' one-point advantage (34-33).  Majekodunmi's jumper put Albright on top 35-34 at the break.
