WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University men's swimming and diving team won 168-73 at William Paterson University on Friday night.
The Profs have a 3-1 record with a 1-0 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rowan had first places in the 200 medley (1:41.68) and 200 freestyle (1:30.36) relays. The medley relay consisted of Matt Smits (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills), Dylan Regan (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Eric Feuerstein (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Matt Grubb (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.). Matt Schillaci (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Glassboro),
Colin Fisher (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Youssef Elshenawy (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep) and Marc Gernhardt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made up the free relay.
Schillaci was the winner (1:50.12) in the 200 free and Dave Smits (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) was second (1:52.95). Grubb came in first (23.05) in the 50 free and Matt Smits took second (23.30). Matt Smits was also second (56.94) in the 100 backstroke. Aaron Schiff (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) took first (51.71) in the 100 freestyle. Chad Shire (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) won the one and three-meter diving with 248.05 and 225.75 points respectively. Christian Termine (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had a second place (164.15) on the three-meter board.
In the 1000 freestyle, Matt McSorley (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) touched first (10:57.33) while Steven Nguyen (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) and Dom Merighi (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) were second (11:06.80) and third (11:10.90) respectively. Nguyen also had a second place (1:06.63) in the 100 breaststroke. Elshenawy came in first (5:01.48) in the 500 freestyle followed by McSorley, second (5:14.17) and Noah Shepard (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.), third (5:14.56).
Regan swam 55.51 in the 100 butterfly for first place. Feuerstein finished second (2:05.25) in the 200 individual medley.
Nick Marte (sr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.86) and 200 individual medley (2:08.89).
Rowan is back home on Saturday, November 11 against Ramapo College at 1 p.m. The divers host West Chester University at 4:30 p.m.
