Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Matt Hendrickson recorded the winning goal with 2:47 left in the first overtime period to give the Rowan University men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday night.
 
Forward Shane Doherty (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) sent a pass up the right side to midfielder Kevin Primich (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown). Primich kicked a cross over to the left post and Hendrickson (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was there to put it in the goal. It was his second game-winner of the month as he also scored in overtime in the Profs' 3-2 victory at Muhlenberg College (Oct. 3).
 
It was Rowan's ninth straight triumph as it improves to 14-2 overall. The Profs are unbeaten in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) at 7-0 and take over sole possession of first place with two games remaining in the regular season. The Scarlet Raiders have a 15-2 record and they are 6-1 in the NJAC. Rowan is ranked sixth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll while Rutgers-Newark is 10^th.
 
It was a close, intense battle as expected between two top-10 squads. Neither team found the back of the net during regulation despite plenty of chances and both goalkeepers made some impressive saves to keep the scoreboard blank. Profs' goalkeeper Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) finished with 10 saves while goalie Andres Medina (so. Howell, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) stopped 11 shots for the Scarlet Raiders. Rowan had a 27-16 advantage in shots but Rutgers-Newark had more corner kicks by a 10-3 margin.
 
The men's soccer team plays its final non-conference game on Monday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. at Brooklyn College.
