JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team was never behind in a 91-53 victory at New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Monday evening.
The Profs have a 10-4 record with a 4-3 conference mark. The Gothic Knights are 4-10 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC. The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7 but was postponed due to the winter storm that moved across the state.
Guards
Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) and
Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) led Rowan with 21 points apiece. Crilley grabbed eight rebounds and Sanchez totaled seven boards. Guard/forward
Alex Raring (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) contributed with 11 points and center
April Szymczyk (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) chipped in with nine points. Forward
Jenna Hoffner (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) corralled 10 rebounds and blocked four shots while guard
Valerie Garofalo (sr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) had six steals.
NJCU guard Tu'ziah Hall (fr. Greenville, NC/Banneker) tallied 11 points. Center Shege Haxhaj (jr. Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) brought down 10 rebounds and forward Ziyadah Williams (sr. Jersey City, NJ/University Academy Charter) produced seven boards. Guard/forward Jazz Randall (sr. Parsippany, NJ/West Orange) and guards Aaliyah Saud (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) and Iyannah Moore (fr. Newark, NJ/University) all registered six points.
The Profs held a 6-4 lead with 8:18 left in the opening quarter. They followed with an 11-0 run to go ahead by 13 (17-4) at the 4:59 mark. Raring sparked the charge with seven points. The Gothic Knights cut the deficit to nine (17-8) with 4:23 on the clock before Rowan embarked on a 17-6 surge for a 34-14 advantage with 5:33 left in the second. Crilley had eight points, Sanchez poured in seven and Garofalo added a layup. The Profs were in front 44-25 at the break.
Rowan was ahead by 22 (56-34) with 3:37 to go in the third. The Profs had a 21-5 rally to lead by 38 (77-39) with 5:44 remaining in the fourth. Their largest margin was 44 (91-47) at the 1:17 mark.
Rowan is on the road again for a conference matchup at Ramapo College on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
