Women's Basketball Picks Up NJAC Victory At Ramapo, 66-57

MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team had a 66-57 win at Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Wednesday evening.
 
The Profs up their record to 11-4 and they are 5-3 in the conference. The Roadrunners drop to 6-9 overall and 1-7 in the NJAC.
 
Guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) paced Rowan with 21 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. It was her fifth double-double of the year and the six steals tied her career high. Center April Szymczyk (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) totaled a season-best 16 points and grabbed five boards. Guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) added 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Guard Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) chipped in with eight points.
 
Ramapo guard Jina Crawford (jr. New City, NY/Paramus Catholic) and forward Kellie Lane (sr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) registered 13 points apiece. Lane also corralled five rebounds. Forward Tia Solomon (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) recorded 10 points and six boards. Guards Shelby Ringer (sr. Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) and Samantha Rinaldi (fr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) each contributed with six points. Forward Bintou Berete (sr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) brought down six rebounds.
 
The Roadrunners were ahead 7-4 with 4:33 left in the opening period. Rowan then scored 14 straight points as part of a larger 29-7 run to take a 33-14 advantage at the 3:24 mark of the second quarter. Six different players scored in the stretch. Ramapo had eight of the final 10 points of the half to trail 35-22 at the break.
 
The Profs increased their lead to 25 (51-26) with 4:56 remaining in the third. However, the Roadrunners got back into the game with a 23-5 rally to make the score 56-49 with 3:52 to play. Five players had points in the surge. It was the closest Ramapo would get in the final minutes as Rowan converted foul shots down the stretch to clinch the win.
 
The Profs return home to face Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m.
