GLASSBORO, NJ – The Kean University women's basketball team battled back for a 77-72 win at Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Wednesday night.
Rowan guard
Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) scored her 1,000th career point. She is the 17th women's player at the University to reach the mark. In 93 games, Sanchez has totaled 1,011 points. She ended the game with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Profs are 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Cougars have an 8-5 record with a 5-1 NJAC mark.
Kean had four players in double figures. Center/forward De'Mean Bond (fr. Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Guards Jaquetta Owens (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) and Marajiah Bacon (so. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) each contributed with 16 points. Owens and Bacon dished six and five assists respectively. Forward Kenya Adams (jr. Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) grabbed 13 boards and added 10 points.

Alex Raring (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) scored 11 points and had five rebounds for Rowan. Center

Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) each produced nine points and guard
Olivia Rulon (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) followed with eight. Guard
Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) collected six points and six boards.
In the final quarter, Szymczyk's basket gave the Profs an eight-point lead (72-64) with 2:38 remaining. Kean ended the game with 13 straight points for the victory. Bond started the rally with two foul shots (2:11) and Owens nailed a three-pointer (2:00). Bacon made a free throw (1:27) and guard Danielle Oakley (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) tied the score at 72 (1:05) with a layup. Bacon produced the go-ahead basket with 40 seconds on the clock. Adams added a foul shot (0:16) and Bond scored with a layup (0:13).
Bond's basket at 5:01 in the third period gave the Cougars an eight point lead (47-39). The Profs sank six straight foul shots to cut the deficit to two (47-45). Sanchez contributed with four and Kriley had two. Rulon's layup made the score 48-47 (2:32) and she tied the score when she made the free throw on a foul. Owens' three (1:27) put Kean up 52-48. Kriley knotted the game at 52 after two foul shots with 59 seconds left. Rowan closed the quarter with a 7-1 run and was ahead 59-53. Sanchez led the come back with five points.
The score was tied three times in the first quarter. Kean was ahead 14-10 at 4:08 then had three straight baskets to increase the lead to 10 (20-10) with 2:27 remaining. Oakley scored four points and Bond had two. The Cougars were up 25-15 going into the second stanza. Adams had two points at the line (4:55) to lead by seven (31-24). Rowan pulled within three (31-28) after two free throws by Kriley (4:17) and a layup from forward
Kailyn Sytsma (fr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan). Kean followed with nine unanswered points for a 12 point advantage (40-28) at the two-second mark. Center Ruby Asabor (so. Elmont, NY/Long Island Lutheran) scored five of the nine points. The Cougars led 40-30 at the intermission.
Next, Rowan travels to New Jersey City University on Saturday, Jan. 7 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
