Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team defeated William Paterson University, 6-2 on Saturday night.
Five different players scored one goal for the Profs and they also had an own goal. Forwards
Travis Ward (jr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt),
Shane Doherty (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) and
Pete Hall (fr. Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) all contributed with a goal. Midfielder
Vinny Ignatowicz (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and back
Will Sjaastad (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) each produced one marker. Backs
Ryan Logar (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and
Zack Swarbrick (so. Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) and midfielder
Tyler Logar (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Ward had one assist apiece.
This week, Rowan is ranked eighth in the nation and first in the South Atlantic Region. The Profs are undefeated with a 9-0 record and they are 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Pioneers are 4-4-1 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.
Midfielder Darwin Cruz (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) scored William Paterson's goals on penalty kicks. Goalkeeper
Kyle Dennis (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) was in Rowan's net the first half and had three saves. Goalie
Kyler White (so. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.) stopped one shot in the second period. Pioneers goalie Kyle Quigley (fr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) made six saves in 87:27 and Paul Caron (fr. Hardyston, NJ/Sussex Country Tech) played the final 2:33.
The Profs were ahead 3-0 after the first half. Ward scored at 1:53 from 10 yards after a cross from the right side by
Ryan Logar. Doherty hit the right corner (14:31) with assists from
Tyler Logar and Swarbrick. Hall's goal came at 17:40 when he took the ball from a Pioneer and scored.
Cruz's two penalty kicks were at 58:05 and 63:15. Rowan's fourth score was an own goal (73:53) when the ball went off a Pioneer defender into the net. Sjaastad knocked in a rebound at 74:41 after Quigley stopped Ward's shot. Ignatowicz had the final goal (81:26) on a free kick from the left side and 18 yards out.
Next week, Rowan travels to Stockton University on Wednesday, Sept. 28 for an 8 p.m. conference game.
