Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 3-1 on Tuesday night in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.
The set scores were 25-20, 28-30, 25-22 and 25-21. The Profs have an overall record of 3-9 and they are 2-0 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors have an overall mark of 6-8 and they are 1-1 in the conference.
Outside hitter
Erica O'Hagan (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) recorded 13 kills and 11 digs. Middle hitter/opposite
Jamie Shirtz (so. Menham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) had seven kills and six blocks. Setter
Katelyn Paxson (fr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) accumulated 19 assists and 14 digs, while setter
Kat Wolf (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tallied 16 assists and nine digs. Defensive specialist/libero
Rebecca Dantonio (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) collected 18 digs. Defensive specialist Alannah Srisch (so. Port Jefferson, NY/St. John the Baptist) added 12 digs.
For Rutgers-Camden, outside hitter Jamie Mulligan (fr. New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) had nine kills and six digs. Outside hitter/defensive specialist Jassmine Watson (fr. Penns Grove, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and outside hitter Cortnee Wilkerson (jr. Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep.) each tallied seven kills. Setter Caitlynn Marcano (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and defensive specialist/outside hitter Meghan Gallagher (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) had 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Marcano also collected 10 digs. Libero/defensive specialist Melanie Kaiser (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) recorded 24 digs. Outside hitter Caitlin Marchlowitz (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) chipped in with 11 digs and libero/defensive specialist Natalie DiGiacomo (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) finished with 10.
The first set was tied at seven then Rowan used a 6-1 run to take a 13-8 lead. Shirtz had a kill and outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (fr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) recorded a service ace and a kill. The Profs were ahead by as many as six points (17-11 and 18-12). Rutgers-Camden got back to within one (20-19), but Rowan tallied five of the final six points to take the set. Srsich ended the stanza with an ace.
The second set was even at 10 then it was Rutgers-Camden that used a 5-1 spurt for a 15-11 advantage. They held the lead and were out in front 19-13. Rowan stayed close and trailed 24-21. The Profs tallied four straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The Scarlet Raptors responded with two points of their own to go-ahead 26-25. The set was then tied at 26, 27 and 28. The final two points of the set were won by Rutgers-Camden on errors.
Rowan jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the third set, but Rutgers-Camden clawed its way back and tied the set at 15. The Profs led 19-17, but the Scarlet Raptors scored the next four points for a 21-19 lead. Rowan recovered, tallying five of the last six points to win the set. Outside hitter
Kailey Gallagher (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had the set-winning kill.
In the fourth stanza, the score was tied 13 times, the final time at 20. Rowan reeled off four straight points, including a kill from Gallagher for a 24-20 advantage and went on to win the set and the match.
Rowan hosts Frostburg State University on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.
