#10 Men's Soccer Comes From Behind To Win NJAC Opener, 4-2 at New Jersey City

Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The #10 Rowan University men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to come from behind and win over New Jersey City University, 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.
 
It was the first conference match of the season for both teams. The Profs trailed 2-1 at the break. Rowan tied the game at the 49:12 mark when midfielder Tyler Logar (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) kicked the ball into the box. The ball deflected off the chest of forward Shane Doherty (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) and onto the foot of back Will Sjaastad (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) who beat the keeper on the right side.
 
Just 31-seconds later, Doherty streaked in on the keeper, was taken down and awarded a penalty kick. He converted, giving the Profs a 3-2 lead with 40:17 on the clock. The Profs added an insurance goal with 26:15 remaining, when a Gothic Knights player kicked the ball into his own net.
 
Rowan remains undefeated with a 7-0 record. NJCU suffered its first loss and has a mark of 7-1. Profs' goalie Kyle Dennis (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) stopped four shots. Gothic Knights' goalie Adam Cassidy (fr. Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) made seven saves.
 
NJCU jumped on the scoreboard at the 1:17 mark as midfielder Davauni Brown (sr. Newark, NJ/Newark Tech) crossed the ball to forward Theo Sanoh (so. Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) who beat the goalie on the left side for a 1-0 lead. Doherty tied the game when he took a feed from midfielder Jake Conners (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and blasted it from the left wing with 22:14 left in the first half. The Gothic Knights took the advantage back with 1:10 on the clock as forward Erick Nascimento (fr. Miami, FL/Alonzo Tracy Mourning) passed the ball to wide-open midfielder Bashar Elsherif (fr. Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.) who put the ball inside the left post.
 
Rowan travels to Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
