Eastern Men's Basketball Wins 116-99 At Rowan

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Eastern University men's basketball team won 116-99 at Rowan University in a non-conference game on Monday night.
 
Seven Eastern players were in double-digits.  Forward Shaquan Turk (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Gospel of Grace) led the way with 23 points.  He was a perfect eight for eight from the floor and four for four from the line.  Turk made a trio of threes and grabbed five rebounds.  Guard Austin Duncan (so. Knoxville, TN/Bearden) came off the bench for 17 points and guard Austin Ja mes (jr. Miami, FL/Miami Senior) contributed with 14. 
 
Forwards Abraham Kurnick (so. Miami, FL/Mater Academy) and Victor Peña (so. Montecristi, DR/Colegio San Jose) each contributed with 13 points.  Forward Lincoln Holley (sr. Easton, PA/Easton) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.  Forward Marquise Peel (so. Forestville, MD/Bishop McNamara) chipped in with 10 points. 
 
The Eagles have a 4-2 record while the Profs are 6-2 overall.  Forward Shawn Wilson (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) led Rowan with 21 points.  Guards Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) and Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) produced 15 points apiece while guard Nick DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) added 11 points.  Rob DePersia also collected five assists and five steals.
 
In the second half, the Eagles built a 15 point lead (61-46) with a 10-2 spurt that ended with a Holley three-pointer at 16:45.  Duncan's three made the score 70-53 with 14:42 remaining.  James increased the lead to 21 (84-63) with a jumper (10:43).  Rowan followed with a 15-4 run and trailed by 10 (88-78) at 8:45.  It was the closest the Profs came for the remainder of the game.  Turk (6:20) and Duncan (6:00) each registered two points at the line and the score was 101-80. Peña's layup gave Eastern its largest lead of 23 points (105-82) with 5:13 on the clock.  Turk scored 21 of his 23 points in the final stanza. 
 
Eastern started the game with a 10-0 run in 2:27.  Rowan pulled within four (12-8) after two fouls shots by Nick DePersia (15:17).  The Eagles followed with six straight points to lead 20-8 at 13:55.  Carroll and forward Tarek Hamzeh (sr. Miami, FL/LaSalle) each hit a three-pointer and Peel had a layup.  Kurnick converted a three-point play (9:56) and the Eagles were ahead by 13 (31-18). 

Kurnick sank two free throws (6:55) and he made another (6:33) for a 16-point advantage (38-22).  Rowan trailed by six (42-36) after a 14-4 run.  Wilson drilled three straight threes in the surge.  Holley's three with 3:14 left put Eastern up 47-36.  Forward Gary Carthan (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) scored with a layup (2:10) and Rob DePersia had two baskets (1:54, 1:22) then Carthan added a free throw (1:03) to cut the deficit to four (48-44).  Duncan hit a three-pointer at the two-second mark for a 51-44 advantage at the intermission.                                                                                                                                                                     
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Dec. 7 for an 8 p.m. conference game.
